【resolve】症状に関する英語表現・～が改善した【医学論文の英語表現】

最近は真面目に(？)症例報告作成に取り組んでるのでなかなか更新できませんでしたが、論文書きながらみてきた英語の一部をまとめていきます。

今回は"resolve"です。

単語の意味と共起表現、クラスター

resolveは「解決する」という意味の単語ですが、他に「決意する」「決心する」などの意味や医学論文上では「（症状などの問題が）改善する」に近い意味で使われることが多いです。

問題解決の意味合いが強いためかコーパスをみると共起表現として挙がってくる名詞は"problem", "issue", "conflict"などが上位に来ます。順位は下がりますが"symptom"もランクインしてきます。

副詞は"quickly", "peacefully", "easily"などが上位に来ますが、医学論文というより通常のそれ以外の問題について使われることが多そうですね。

用例 

では用例。症状を主語にもってきて、自動詞として使われることが多そうです。

Her gait abnormality resolved and she could walk independently at the 1-year-follow-up.*1

A general rule is that if the nystagmus is typical of posterior canal BPPV and resolves with treatment, the diagnosis is correct.*2

こうした障害や症状で用いられます。"~ resolved with treatment "なんてのもよく見かける気がします。

Chancres can be inconspicuous and resolve in 3-10 weeks, possibly explaining why 60% of patients do not recall this lesion.*3

"chancre"は梅毒における下疳のことですね。

 “ring-enhancing lesions have resolved”*4

"ring enhancing lesion"は中枢脱髄性疾患や転移性腫瘍、脳膿瘍でみられる環状の造影効果を指しますが、こういった病変が「改善した」と言う場合にも"resolve"は使えます。使用の幅が広い単語ですね。
